The Metropolitan Washington Ear offers two main services. The first is a radio reading service where volunteers read newspapers and other publications over a sub-frequency broadcast that is picked up by a network of special, distributed radios. The Washington Ear also offers an innovative Dial-IN newspaper and magazine service where volunteers read publications in their entirety into a computer where the information is stored. The articles and publications can be accessed using a standard touch tone telephone and become available the moment the article is finished.

The Washington Ear has more than 400 volunteers who read local and national publications such as the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, People Magazine, USA Today
