Melaleuca squamea, known as the Swamp Honey-myrtle is a common Australian plant found in swampy coastal areas, usually in heathland. A shrub to 3 metres high with corky bark, and crowded woody oval shaped fruit, 5 to 7 mm in diameter. Leaves are 5 to 12 mm long, and 1 to 3 mm wide, with between three and five longitudinal veins. This plant is often noticed in spring, with attractive purple or pink flowers.
