History

The Company was established by John McLean in 1934 with the objective of building houses for local authorities. In 1953, trading as John McLean & Sons, the Company opened one of the first fully furnished show homes in the UK. The Company had its own architects' department which 'twitched' the designs to match the latest market trends.

It acquired Midland & General Developments, itself founded by Eric Pountain, in 1969. McLean Homes was acquired by Tarmac
