Settled in the late 19th century, Maynard is home to the Maynard Pioneer Museum and Park. Behind the Maynard Community Center is a unique jail. Built in 1936, its door is made of wagon wheel
rims. The last time it was used was in 1988, when it temporarily housed Mr. Richard Head who was arrested for public intoxication. However, it mostly serves today as a tourist attraction which is visited by over 9,000 people each year.
Maynard has only one convenience store. The Shamrock Quik-Mart, named after the plant of the same name (binomial name Oxalis acetosella), has been a main-stay for the past 22 years.
In January 2011, Verizon Inc. erected a cellular phone tower (CDMA/3G) on the outskirts of Maynard.
On November 14th, 2011 the town of Maynard's oldest and only dine-in restaurant, the Chuckin' Wheel, closed down after 69 years of business.

Notable residents
Maynard is also home to local Randolph County celebrity, James (Jimmy) Pritchett (B. December 17, 1956). James is best known for his multiple TV appearances on the FOX network and guest-starred in an episode of My Name is Earl on NBC. Filled with a lively attitude, James keeps the town of Maynard lively with his many antics and singing at Maynard Methodist Church. James is planning on opening a convenience store on Hwy 115 near his home to Supply road warriors with everything they need to make it (or at least until the can get to Pochahontas) cross country without needing anything else. James spends most of his days at his ranch with his brother Charles (Mike), his dog Buddy, and his wife Patrica (Pat). He is a true legend of Randolph County. Maynard was founded by the Maynard Clan from French Origin.
