Max Blumfield was an Australian rules football
er who played for South Melbourne
in the Victorian Football League
(VFL) during the 1940s.
Blumfield, from Elsternwick Amateurs, debuted at South Melbourne midway through the 1943 VFL season
and was a regular fixture in the side for the rest of the year. After spending a lot of time in the reserves the following season, Blumfield played only one senior match in 1945, the Semi Final win over Collingwood, but he wasn't selected for the subsequent Grand Final. . Blumfield then re-emerged as a field umpire and officiated in 37 matches from 1951 to 1954.
An accountant, Blumfield ran his own furnishing business for many years.
He died peacefully in his sleep at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne, on 20 September 2011 at 89 years of age.
