In December 2007, Matt signed a record deal with Universal Republic Records. Matt announced this news to the media on The Mark Zito Show, a college radio show at Syracuse University

. Matt released a new record in September 2008 called Under Summer Sun.

In November 2009, Matt announced on his website that he is no longer with Universal Republic and to celebrate, he began giving away a free album that had been recorded live at the Triple Door in Seattle on May 28, 2008, entitled "If It Ain't Broke...".

In January 2011, Matt released his latest single, "Feels So Right," as part of his album, "Weights & Wings," released on March 15, 2011 . He kicked off a tour to promote the album on March 25th, 2011 in New York City.
