Matthew David Baggott CBE
QPM
(born 1959) is Chief Constable
of the Police Service of Northern Ireland
, succeeding Sir Hugh Orde
in September 2009.
Baggott initially joined the Metropolitan Police
and served with the force for twenty years, working in Brixton
, Peckham
and Tooting
. He later served as a staff officer to Commissioner
Sir Paul Condon and worked on the Stephen Lawrence
inquiry.
In June 1998 he was appointed Assistant Chief Constable
of West Midlands Police
and was promoted Deputy Chief Constable
in November 2001. In December 2002 he became Chief Constable of Leicestershire Constabulary
.
He was awarded the Queen's Police Medal
(QPM) in the 2004 Birthday Honours and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.
He is President of the Christian Police Association.
