and its population started to decline. Its population has remained steady since the mid to late 20th century. Houses until the 1950s were stone-built and did not become modern-style homes until the 1980s. Matessi was linked with pavement in the 1980s.
The village was endangered by a fire
in 2007 that spread from the area of Andritsaina. Flames destroyed the forests in the surrounding area. Firefighters fought the flames along with choppers and airplanes. The fire reached the village between 4 to 6 PM (16:00 to 18:00) on Monday August 27 and continued to rage throughout the afternoon and evening hours, leaving only some parts of the area unaffected.

Geography
Matesi is situated on a mountain slope. A small mountain is to be found on the east side of the village and its road encircles to the north. The surrounding area is mountainous and most of the forests are to the west and north of the village as well as the Alfeios River. Farmlands are within the vicinity of the village.Information
