Masjid Al-Muttaqin

Masjid Al-Muttaqin, or Al-Muttaqin Mosque is the fifth Mosque completed under the Mosque Building Fund Scheme Phase I. The mosque's official ground-breaking ceremony was officiated by Mr Syed Ali Redha Alsagoff, chairman of Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud (LBKM), on April 29, 1979 and it was officially opened on September 2, 1980 by the late Mr Rahmat Kenap (MP for Geylang Serai). The chosen name Al-Muttaqin refers to the pious people who are ever aware of God the Almighty.

Located in the central area of the Singapore island, the Mosque serves the residents of Ang Mo Kio

Profile

Masjid Al–Muttaqin was built in 1980 at a cost of $1.83 million. The land cost was $268,775.00 and the cost of furnishing it was $200,000.00. Between 1987 and 1988, a new floor was added to make rooms for the pre-school classes.

With the ever increasing activities and the demands for more space Masjid Al-Muttaqin was further renovated in 1998, adding a third level at a cost of $2.6 million.

Operations

Apart from the five daily congregational prayers, the mosque also conducts the compulsory Friday Prayer, Idul Fitri and Idul Adha prayers.

Al-Muttaqin Mosque also distributes basic food ration such as rice, oil and sardine to needy families who are registered with MUIS and the mosque. In addition to providing free religious classes, the Mosque also conducts programmes such as the sewing, handicraft and reading classes to provide skills to the assistance clients, so as to help them out of the vicious poverty cycle.

Masjid Al-Muttaqin conducts talks on health education and healthy life-style as part of its efforts to promote health awareness amongst the Muslims. The Muslimah (Women) Wing conducts its weekly Kebayarobics exercise session every Sunday morning at the mosque, Bishan
