Traffic Congestion

Martinez is known for its notorious traffic congestion. Washington Road and the northern end of Bobby Jones Expressway are by far the most congested roads in the CDP, with thousands of cars traveling on them per day. The reason for this is because Washington Road is the only main highway leading from Augusta to Evans and rural Columbia County, for River Watch Parkway ends upon reaching Martinez. The northern end of Bobby Jones Expressway (the beginning of Georgia State Route 232

Pronunciation

Residents generally pronounce the name of this unincorporated suburb by placing the most emphasis on the final syllable (Mar'-tuhn-EZ). This is due to the fact that over time locals lost the actual pronunciation of Dr. Joseph Martinez through their southern accents.
