Maralyn Davina Butter was born in 1950, the daughter of Major David Butter and his wife, Myra (a daughter of Sir Harold Wernher, Bt.
). On 30 October 1973, she married Lord Ramsay, who succeeded to the Earldom of Dalhousie
on his father's death in 1999, whereupon Lady Ramsay became Countess of Dalhousie. They have three children:
