Manie Maritz

Manie Maritz was a Boer General during the Second Boer War
and a leading rebel of the 1914 Boer Revolt.
Maritz was born in Kimberly and christened Salmon Gerhardus Maritz and also known as Gerrit Maritz.
After the Second Boer War Maritz served in the South African Army, but at the start of World War I he rose in revolt against the South African government, allied himself to the Germans and was a leading member of the Boer Revolt in 1914.
He died in Pretoria on 19 December 1940.
