. He turned professional in 1961 and was in his prime in the 1960s, before the official establishment of the European Tour in 1972. He won five tournaments on the European circuit, including three in 1967 when he collected the Harry Vardon Trophy as leader of the Order of Merit, which was based on a points system at that time. He also made his only appearances in the Ryder Cup
