Maiden Erlegh School is a large community Academy
for boys and girls (aged 11–18) with arts (including performing arts) and business and enterprise specialisms. The school was awarded the Artsmark
Gold mark in 2002 and 2005. It currently has 1,800 pupils, 360 of whom are in the sixth form. There have been non-stop rows over Maiden Erlegh's catchment area, the children living on the edge of Reading have no access neither does Lower Earley. Wokingham Borough Council are making a fairer catchment.

In April 2010 Maiden Erlegh celebrated 25 years of German Exchanges with Gymnasium Schloss Overhagen.
Maiden Erlegh collaborates with local artists and has a gallery with regular exhibitions. The school has many links and collaborations with local and national business and encourages students to partake in a number of business competitions and challenges.
