between 200 - 500 m.a.s.l. It can reach a height of 30 meters and the trunk can be 50 - 75 cm of diameter. The smooth ovate-elliptic leaves are 12 - 29 cm long and 7.5 - 12 cm wide. Flowers have 6 obovate white petals ca. 6 cm long; the ovoid fruit can be 11 - 14 cm long. A common name for this tree in Bolivia is "granadilla".

This species has been reported in National Parks and other protected areas within its range, such as Amboro National Park and Isiboro Secure National Park in Bolivia.
