Phala's work is represented in several private and corporate art collections namely the French Embassy; De Beers
, London as well as Minister Pallo Jordan
and art historian Barbara Lindop.
He was murdered outside his house in March 2007.
Madi and Fikile Zulu met and fell in love as artists and soon the artistic couple became known as 'MadFik' and began designing for famous artists such as Sipho Hotstix Mabuza.
Fikile Zulu went on to become a professional fashion designer and Madi remained in the visual arts.
The two were a power couple and gave birth to three wonderful children, Morake Phala, Tseleng Phala and Boitumelo Phala.
Morake Phala is working in Impala Platinum Mines and has a financial management diploma from Springs College.
Tseleng Phala is an architect graduate from Wits University, has travelled extensively to places such as Germany and South Korea as a representative of the Wits Architectural School and is currently in the process of opening up his Architect Firm. He has also taken after his Mother and Father and is a well known visual artist.
The youngest Daughter, Boitumelo Phala, whom Madi endearingly called, Masibutsane, is a Wits Law Graduate, with an Honours Law Degree , a music career, and is currently writing her novel.
So Madi may have left his fans and family but he does not leave us with nothing but music, theatre and arts in his children.
