MacArthur Transit Village

Because of MacArthur's importance as an interchange and its location in the center of the East Bay, BART has conducted a number of feasibility studies about the prospects of creating transit-oriented development

 around the station. These have resulted in a plan for the "MacArthur Transit Village," a mixed-use development on the eastern side of Route 24 bounded by 40th Street, Telegraph Avenue, and West MacArthur Boulevard. The current plan calls for 624 residential units as well as 42,500 square feet of retail space. In May 2011 ground broke on construction of a new 450-space parking garage for BART, all fervently supported by this stations board member Lynette Sweet

Connecting transit at MacArthur BART includes:
line 31 to alameda point(no service to macarthur bart on weekends, 31 terminates at downtown oakland)
line 57 To foothill square, or San Pablo and 40th.
MacArthur bart is also serviced by the kaiser and Oaklands childrens hospital shuttle, and the Emery go round free shuttle to Emeryville.
Emery Go round provides 2 primary shuttles 'Powell' and 'Hollis', and a rush hour only shuttle called the Watergate express

MacArthur station is unique in the BART system in that it was built with cross-platform interchange

s in mind. There are two island platforms and four tracks; the outer tracks serve all trains to and from Richmond, while the inner tracks serve the Pittsburg/Bay Point-SFO Line; at times Richmond-Millbrae Line trains also use the center tracks. Connections between the lines are timed for southbound travellers, while not so for northbound ones, as a transfer already exists further south at 19th Street/Oakland.
