On November 12, 2007, the Long Beach Police Department announced plans to purchase two used Eurocopter AS-350B2 helicopters from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department as their primary police helicopter. The reasons for the switch primarily are due to higher operating costs involved in using the EC-130s.

stepped down in October 2009 to become the new police chief of the Oakland Police Department
