. A proposal to extend the 406 to Teddington
in 2001 was not received favouably by residents and did not go ahead.
On 30 June 2007 the contract to operate route 406 was taken over by to Quality Line (formerly Epsom Buses); this decision had been announced eight months earlier. Four new Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double deckers were bought, the first double deckers for this operator. The route was diverted via Surbiton Hill Road instead of Surbiton Station
at the same time. Route 418 was taken over by Quality Line on the same day.
