(Horse & Groom). It was a "localisation" of route 5 and was introduced as part of a small route change scheme in which route 5 was withdrawn between Clapham Common and Mitcham, being re-routed to Raynes Park to replace route 67.

The average journey time is between 36 to 63 minutes. The frequency for Monday to Saturday is every 12 minutes, Sunday and evenings every 20 minutes.

The route was soon extended to Morden station and remained a stable operation for many years. The first change to come to the route was in 1987 when the 118 swapped routeings with the 137; the 137 now ran past Brixton Garage from where it was run and the 118 (operated by Streatham) adopted the routeing via Thornton Avenue.

In 1990 the route was discontinued between Brixton garage and Clapham Common being replaced by route 60 (later 255, now 50) with a peak hour extension to Brixton Station becoming the permanent terminal in 1994.

Following privatisation, operation passed to South London(now Arriva London South), initially from Streatham (AK) then following closure to Brixton (BN). Tendering saw it pass to London General
