On October, 3, 2011, the ODRC announced that all but eight male death row prisoners will be transferred to a new death row facility at thet Chillicothe Correctional Institution
, with six high security inmates reamining at OSP and two with serious illnesses being held at the Franklin Medical Center. This will allow the units at OSP and Mansfield to be used to separate violent inmates from the general population and will reduce transportation costs to the execution chamber at SOCF. The move is expected to be completed by January 2012.
