In May 2007, voters approved an emergency 8.9 mill tax levy, preventing the elimination of extracurricular activities and the loss of nineteen staff members. Even with the levy, the district faced $1.4 million in cuts. A similar 8.9 mill emergency tax levy was rejected by voters in November 2006.

The Licking Heights School system serves about 3000 students in the district's five buildings: Licking Heights High School, LH Central (middle school), LH North(elementary), LH South (elementary), and LH West(elementary). The past several years, the district has made an extensive effort to upgrade its textbooks, classes, and inservice opportunities for faculty. Tax levy
May 2011. Voters approved a levy proposal on the ballot to renewal the expiring 2007 Emergency Levy (8.92 mills) plus the addition of 3 new mills for a total of 11.92 mills. The net effect of passage is only an increase of $9.32 a month per $100,000 of property value. The district will still trim $1.5 million from its operating costs with levy passage. Failure of this levy will require the district to make $5 million in cuts. Marching band
The Licking Heights Marching Band has 95 members as of 2011. The band is known for integrating their unique and engaging marching style with quality music.
