Club career

Li Shuai started his professional football career with Qingdao Hademen in 2002. He made his senior debut in a 4-1 defeat against Beijing Guoan

 on 1 September 2002. After several seasons playing as a reserve goalkeeper in the 2005 season he rose to prominence by playing in 23 league games. However the following season for Li Shuai was to prove unsuccessful with Qingdao, as they flirted with relegation. Li Shuai also found himself playing a significantly smaller role within the team by playing in only 13 games within the season. At the beginning of the 2007 season he transferred to Guangzhou Pharmaceutical who were in the second tier, after only one season with the team he quickly established himself as the first choice goalkeeper and saw Guangzhou immediately promoted the Chinese Super League
