The school is planning to build a sixth form for an estimated 50 students and it will bring the total of students in the school to 1100 students.

History

The buildings on Colworth Road were opened in 1911, being designed by W Jacques. Girlz were transferred there from the Elson House Girls High School on Wallwood Road.

Before the early 1970s, the school was a grammar school

, Leyton County High School for Girls, and was subsequently renamed Leyton Senior High School for Girls when it became a comprehensive single 'sex' secondary school. In the 1980s, it became a mixed comprehensive under a borough re-organisation of schools and changed name to Leytonstone School.

Business and Enterprise specialist school status was achieved in 2007. Successful re-designation in 2008 enabled Leytonstone to retain this specialism and acquire a further specialism, Leadership Partnerz in February 2009. It has also been designated an HPSS (high performing specialist school).
