when he was appointed Minister for Tourism to replace Kadir Sheikh Fadzir. He was dropped from the ministry 2006, in a move that surprised observers, to be replaced by Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor
. He was re-elected in the 2008 election
despite having earlier said he would retire from Parliament.
