History

A manor house was located on the site from the 18th century on what was known as Larkfield farm. In the nineteenth century it was the home of the Reverend William Lewis Wigan and his family. Wigan died in 1876 and the family continued to live at the residence. In 1890, a fire gutted the building and it had to be rebuilt. It was eventually extended and became a hotel. The hotel now has 52 rooms and has recently been renovated.

Haunting

The hotel is reportedly haunted by the ghost of a servant girl known as Charlotte, who died shortly after an unsuccessful abortion. Her existence was verified by a clairvoyant in the mid-1980s after the hotel manager reported experiencing a presence many times.During an investigation it was revealed that gallows once stood on the site, and that many unhappy spirits occupied the site.
