History Centre. It is the ceremonial hall where the royal ceremonies of Brunei
are traditionally held. In this place, beneath the interior's golden-domed ceiling, that the present Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, was crowned on 1 August 1968. Adjoining the Lapau is the old Dewan Majlis or Parliament House. A new and bigger Dewan Majlis has just been built. Official permission is required to enter the Lapau.
