Athletics

Lake's nickname is the Flyers, named for the Metcalf Field Airport directly across the street from campus. They are members of the Northern Buckeye Conference. The school colors are Navy Blue,White and Columbia blue.

Lake's only state championships have come in individual sports. The three state championships include:
  • 1999 - Bill Cannon - Wrestling
  • 2006 - Brittany TenEyck - 1 Meter Diving
  • 2007 - Brittany TenEyck - 1 Meter Diving

Football

The football program has seen fleeting success since joining the Suburban Lakes League in 1996. Lake saw five consecutive seasons without a losing record from 2000 to 2005, including two state playoff appearances in 2000 and 2001, and a league championship in 2001 under Head Coach Jim Kubuske. After suffering levy problems, that included threats of canceled seasons, a roster hurt by transfers, and a forcing non-renewal of head coach Kubuske by the School Board, Lake has seen just three winning season since 2005, including a 7-3 season in 2009 and 6-4 in 2010.

Baseball

Recent program success includes Suburban Lakes League Championships in 2001, 2002, and 2003, including a regional championship in 2001 and a regional runner-up in 2003.

2010 Tornado

On Saturday, June 5th, 2010 a large portion of Lake High School was destroyed by an EF4 tornado

 . The tornado threw a bus onto the tennis courts and tore off the back end of the school and also hit the Lake Township police station. Graduation was to be held on Sunday, June 6th at the school. The building has been described as "completely destroyed" and "unsalvageable". One of those killed was the father of the 2010 valedictorian.
