. The second high school in the city, LCHS opened in 1994 and draws from the southern and western areas of the Coeur d'Alene school district.

Basketball

The 2008–09 Lake City Timberwolves basketball season was the 15th season in school history, and was led by Athletic Director and former Coach Jim Winger. The Timberwolves returned three starters from the 2007–08 season who placed third in the IEL.

Football

After Lake City's initial football teams posted winless seasons, the football program quickly rose to be one of the top programs in the state under coach Van Troxel. The Timberwolves achieved their first state championship birth in 1999 with an undefeated regular season, eventually losing in the state championship game to Vallivue. Lake City then returned to the 4A state championship game two of the next three years, winning its first ever football state title in 2002 with a 47-26 victory over Madison. The team returned to win the Idaho 5A state championship in 2006. The 2006 team finished 12-0, ranked first in all of Idaho and tenth in the nation.
In 2007, Lake City ranked as high as 24th in the national pre-season high school football polls and finished 8-3, 3rd in the state. In 2007, Lake City has gained its 100th win in its only 14-year history. Some of the athletes produced by Coach Van Troxel's football program at Lake City High School have moved on to successful careers in NCAA Division I football and the NFL.

Baseball

The Lake City High School varsity baseball team has had success in recent years. In the 2004 season, the team reached the state tournament for the first time and placed second. The team also placed second in state for the 2008 season, and were State Champions in 2007. Coach Bridges retired at the end of last season, and was replaced by Darren Taylor, the former Girls basketball coach, for the coming 2009 season.

The 2008 team contained 8 players who went on to sign national letters of intent to play collegiate baseball.

Lacrosse

The Lake City Varsity Lacrosse team has also been a successful Lake City athletic program under Dwight Emmons, winning five straight IEL Lacrosse Championships for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. The team finished 2007 as the State champions, and placed second in three consecutive State Championships for 2008, 2009, and 2010.

Soccer

The Lake City soccer program, coached by Chad Beadel, is a frequent competitor in IEL play. In 1996 they won a state championship.

Music and Drama

Lake City has an award winning arts department. Every two years the choirs and bands participate in the Heritage Festival

of Seattle. In 2006, the Lake City Symphonic and Jazz Band won first prize out of all schools in the northwest, as did their orchestra. The Chamber Choir received a silver medal, the Jazz, Treble, and Concert choirs also all won bronze medals.

The Lake City High School Marching Band performed for Good Morning America when it came to Coeur d' Alene on November 28, 2007.

The Lake City Drama department has won first prize at District Drama for Northern Idaho several years in a row, for the school with the most people placing for various scenes. It recently won first prize again for districts on November 17, 2007.

It is one of only a few schools to have its music department honored with the title of "Grammy Signature School".
