. The municipality is situated approximately 10 kilometres from Vélez Málaga and 40 from the provincial capital. Near the village lies the reservoir known in English as Lake Vinuela. It has a population of approximately 1,500 residents. The natives are called Viñoleros and their nickname is Polacos. The area is outstandingly beautiful and has many facilities at nearby Puente de Don Manuel, including a butchers, bakers, vet, and dentist. The town has a 24 hour medical centre.
