La Pierre is a small village in the Goncelin canton in the Isère (38) département of the Rhône-Alpes region. Situated at an altitude of 254m, and a neighbour of the Champ-près-Froges and Hurtières communes, the village has about 800 inhabitants, who are known as Pierrois and Pierroises. The commune extends for about 3.3 km and is surrounded by agricultural land, giving the village its rural character. The Pierrois are said to be welcoming and friendly; many families have been farmers for generations. The current mayor of La Pierre is Jean-Paul Durand.
