 that was resettled after a major storm on January 28, 1966 which wiped away a large portion of the community. This community was first settled in the 1840s by George Melvin. Prior to being settled, La Manche served as seasonal fishing grounds for fishermen from Newfoundland, England

. The community of La Manche was inhabited by the Melvin family with the exception of one family of Cranes. There was a small church located in the community, which was served regularly by the Roman Catholic priest who resided in the neighboring harbours. In the earliest census information dated to 1845 there were about 34 inhabitants in La Manche, 5 of those 34 having been born in England.

The Post Office was established in 1892 and the first Postmaster was George Rose.
