The diploma is awarded upon passing a course which includes an externally examined written paper, an internally assessed and externally moderated coursework portfolio, an externally examined interview, and a teaching practice component that includes four internally assessed and externally moderated lessons, plus one externally examined lesson. All candidates for the LTCL TESOL must have completed a course validated by Trinity College. They must also have a first degree or equivalent; a minimum of two years' recent full-time ESOL teaching experience; and an ability to speak and write English appropriate for a teacher of English at advanced levels.
