The Institute has its own building with over 5000 sq. mts. built up area. It accommodates a complete mechanical workshop, drawing hall, audio-visual theatre, library, administrative wing, well-equipped laboratories, classrooms and also a playground.

History

L&T INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY was set up in 1983 by LARSEN & TOUBRO Staff and Workmen Welfare Trust to impart need based and application oriented technical education. It is primarily meant for the benefit of the wards of the employees of Larsen & Toubro and its subsidiary companies all over the country . Since 1st August 1984 the Institute has been taken over by L&T Ltd as a part of its welfare activities. In the last twenty years, the institute has emerged as a "model institute" and a "centre of excellence". The institute has been approved by the "All India Council for Technical Education" for diploma courses in Engineering. Government of Maharashtra took due note of the excellent facilities of the institute and rated it as 'A' grade institute.

Academics

LTIT offers the following four engineering courses: Computer Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. All four courses are approved and accredited by the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE).

Each course lasts for eight semesters and these are spread out over four years. The annual First Year of diploma intake for each class is sixty students, thus leading to a total of two hundred and forty freshmen entering LTIT each year.

Graduates receive a Diploma degree from the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education.

Location and Campus

The institute is located in the eastern part of L&T, Powai Works, in Mumbai. It is built on a raised ground commanding a very pleasant and panoramic view of the western suburbs and Aarey Milk Colony. Its calm and serene environment makes it an excellent setting for education and training. The institute can be approached from Gate No.5 of Powai Works.

Administration

The Management of the institute rests with the Managing Council constituted in accordance with the structure recommended by the Regional Committee of All India Council of Technical Education and the Government of Maharashtra.

Academic Courses

The Institute presently offers Four year Diploma Courses (Industry Integrated) as under :
  1. Diploma in Computer Engineering : 60 seats
  2. Diploma in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering : 60 seats
  3. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering : 60 seats

Examination System

All examinations are conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education according to the examination rules in force from time to time. In order to ensure sustained effort and regularity throughout the semester, the Board gives due weightage to continuous assessment of term work and class tests.

Student Activities

L&T Instiitute of Technology incorporates many activities internally and externally. Few events undertaken by LTIT are:

  • IETE students council
