 and ÍA Akranes. He is currently playing for Grótta. He was the first-choice goalkeeper for KR seven seasons in a row from 1999, when the team won their first league title in 31 years.

There have been speculations on whether Kristján will retire at the end of the 2006 season. In an interview in early October 2006, he told the media he wanted to play for KR for another season. He said that it was very exiting to play in the UEFA Cup. Kristján has also told the media that he wants to end his career as a striker at Grótta, the club he played with in his youth years.

After a disappointing 2008 season with KR Kristján switched to the 2. division club Grótta from Seltjarnarnes. Kristján grew up in Seltjarnarnes and played with Grótta until he was 12 years old.
Grótta won the 2. division 2009 with 45 points and with Kristján in goal in all the 22 games the team conceded 26 goals. In the final game vs. Magni from Grenivík Kristján played the 2nd half as a striker and had few good chances to score. Kristján, along with teammates Sigurvin Ólafsson and Sölvi Davíðsson, was chosen in the team of the year by the popular webpage www.fotbolti.net http://fotbolti.net/fullStory.php?id=81995

In the 2010 season Grótta played in the 1. division

 for the first time in the club's history. The team finished in 10th place, only one point from getting relegated. Kristján played 16 games but missed out the other games because of knee injury.

Recently Grótta signed Kristján as assistant coach to assist their new coach, Sigurður Helgason, in the upcoming season.
