There are three categories of korporal:
  1. Utskrevet befalskorporal, a conscript who has completed a training course and serves as befal (NCO).
  2. Befalsskoleelev, a cadet at the NCO training school.
  3. Korporal, a conscript who has been promoted to corporal either because his position warrants it or because of outstanding service. This grade is temporary and ends after the soldier is dismissed from service.
