Kingston upon Hull College of Education was founded in 1913 as "Hull Municipal Training College".

It changed its names many times, up till September 1976 when it merged into Hull College of Higher Education, which ultimately formed part of the University of Lincoln

The stimulus for its founding was a shortage of certified teachers in the city's schools.

Kingston Upon Hull College of Education held high standards to the end of its days, selecting and producing teachers and educationalists of note for both the City and beyond. The college was noted for producing students and teachers willing to challenge the status quo and existing paradigms. This was primarily due to the influence of Cyril Bibby

, principal between 1959 and 1977. Students from the college have gone on to be modernising head teachers, teachers of inspiration and businessmen and women of note.
