, in 2005. Kingspan Century continues to operate in Ireland offering a similar portfolio of solutions as Kingspan Off-Site in the UK. In 2006, Potton, a self-build specialist, and Pace Timber Frame also became part of the group as a result of further acquisitions.

Façade solutions

Kingspan Off-Site’s product range was extended in 2006 by the purchase of Fibrecon. Established in 2001, Fibrecon manufactures insulating wall panels consisting of a lightweight reinforced concrete face. This business has since been rebranded as Kingspan Fabrik.

In 2007 all business units, including Potton, Banro, Century, Pace, Fabrik and Off-Site merged to form the Kingspan Off-Site super division.

Overview

Kingspan Off-Site manufactures structural building systems, including the Kingspan Logic Building System, the TEK Building System and the Kingspan Metro Building System.

In addition to the complete building systems, Kingspan Off-Site also supplies a range of components including roof trusses, engineered timber floor joists, architectural façade carrier systems, lightweight concrete façades, floor cassettes and balconies, as well as a recently introduced collection of low carbon technologies.

Timber Frame

The Kingspan TEK Building System is used by social housing providers to enable thermally efficient homes to be built quickly. Products are precision-engineered and pre-insulated off-site, minimising the time spent on-site and the overall build time. The Kingspan TEK Building System was used in the Kingspan Lighthouse project.

Kingspan Logic open panel timber frame is used for both residential and commercial developments as it can be used for buildings up to 6 storeys high. Kingspan Logic can also have insulation

pre-fitted in a variety of thicknesses.

Steel Solutions

The Kingspan Metro Building System is a whole panelised loadbearing building method. It comprises a range of off-site manufactured, cost effective unitised 2D panel assemblies, providing fast on-site assembly.

Façade Systems

Kingspan Fabrik façade systems consist of a lightweight reinforced concrete face fixed onto a Kingspan Architectural Façade Carrier System. Constructed off-site, the Fabrik system provides a complete insulated façade solution and can be installed in one drop, ready for internal lining. A range of colours and external effects are offered for the Fabrik system. They can also be tailor made to suit the customer’s requirements. Kingspan Fabrik façade panels are also available as standalone items for fixing on-site.

Special Projects

Kingspan Lighthouse

The UK’s first ever net-zero carbon house was constructed using the Kingspan Off-Site TEK Building System. The award-winning Kingspan Lighthouse was the first house to reach Code level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the Government standard to which all new homes will have to be designed and constructed by 2016.

in the construction of the development, which will offer a mix of affordable and private homes.

The challenge will deliver the first development of zero carbon homes and communities well in advance of this becoming a mandatory requirement for all new homes in 2016, and help the housebuilding sector demonstrate that the targets are feasible and can be commercially viable. The Kingspan TEK Building System will be the key component in Barratt Development’s supply chain, specified for its excellent thermal performance and minimal wastage.

As well as zero-carbon homes, the project will create eco lifestyles by transforming Hanham Hall, a listed building, into a centre dedicated to community use, incorporating rainwater capture systems and include sustainable drainage, farmers’ shops, a car club and bicycle storage.

60k House

One of the house designs from the SIXTYK Consortium’s winning entry in the Design for Manufacture competition was constructed using Kingspan Off-Site’s TEK Building System opposite the Building Centre in London, providing visitors to the centre with a first hand experience of what an innovative £60,000 home will look like.

The demonstrator house was one of a range of 35 house and apartment models designed by the SIXTYK Consortium for the Design for Manufacture competition. The Kingspan TEK Building System was central to achieving the performance requirements set out by the competition’s criteria. The requirements included design flexibility, affordability, adaptability, sustainability and an excellent EcoHome rating, all at a low cost.

The SIXTYK house model range achieved excellent thermal

and airtightness efficiency due to the specially designed jointing method and junction details inherent in the TEK Building System, which minimise air leakage through the joints once constructed.

The Kingspan TEK Building System was also used to control costs through the manufacturing and site assembly process to ensure the house models could be constructed within the £60k budget.
