History

Kimmage Manor was built in the 18th century and remodeled in tudor style in the 19th century. The Holy Ghost Fathers came to Kimmage in 1911 when they purchased the house and its 69 acres. The developing buildings on the site such as the church and college buildings, the Holy Ghost Missionary College train priests for countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Malawi as well as some other countries in Latin America and Asia.

With the demise in vocations the college moved to lay education in pastoral studies and theology becoming The Kimmage Mission Institute.
In 1980 the Irish governments National Council for Educational Awards(NCEA) recognised Kimmage DSC, and validated a number of its courses. The Bachelor of Arts In Theology and Anthropology validated by NCEA(forerunner to HETAC) was recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland for purposes of Religious education in secondary schools in Ireland.
