With Clichy injured and out for several weeks, Wenger has entrusted the left back spot to the youngster. Wenger later said that it was a metatarsal injury again but the one next to the one he had broken last season and Gibbs required a further check. A day later, the club relievedly confirmed via their official website that Gibbs had only suffered severe bruising to his left foot and would hopefully only be missing from first-team action for the short term. He made his comeback a week later in a Champions League 3–1 away win against FK Partizan
