" consists of a beautifully planned general residential-cum-garrison colony. The roads are laid out in a grid pattern and are lined by beautiful all weather trees. The residential areas include the North colony, Afzaal colony and the IJ colony.

In 1956, it was planned and construction took its start. International companies like Gammon and Caterpillar were here to build the Garrison. One of the market place inside cantt area is named after that company where they stayed during construction.

At that time that, an aerial view of the cantonment area would reveal the blocks of barracks arranged in the formation of USA letters. All villages were relocated by government and the land was given in substitute to the other places. Mosques and graveyards still can be seen today inside the army area. At some places you will also find some of the graves of 9 yards length "Nou Gazza", specially found in the districts of Gujrat, Sialkot and Multan. It is famous about them that at old time the famous saints were buried with 9 "Barchies" spears as an honour to them.

The cantonment has a hospitable services mess/club to provide a location for social activities, an elegant mosque and a beautiful park. There is also a busy shopping area, a well equipped military hospital (CMH Kharian) and two degree colleges, one each for girls and boys.

Kharian Cantt is a center for education. National and international-level schools and colleges are available within the premises of Garrison.
