Demography

The area is populated with a mix of people from all income groups. Majority of the inhabitants are from the business class. It is surrounded by large number of trees which makes it a less polluted area.

After the delimitation of the assembly constituencies, Keshav Puram now falls under the Wazirpur assembly constituency. In the 2008 election, Congress candidate Hari Shanker Gupta has defeated BJP's Mange Ram Garg. Now, Mr. Gupta is the elected representative. Ex-MLA Anil Bhardwaj of Congress who happens to be a resident of Keshav Puram but represents the Tri Nagar assembly constituency has also defeated BJP's Nand Kishore Garg consecutively for the second time.

Driving Licence Authority

The driving licence authority for Keshav Puram Area was at Ashok Vihar (Nimri Colony) till recently. It had been shifted to WazirPur Depot (also referred to as Subhash Place Depot)

Wazirpur Depot

The DTC Bus depot at Wazirpur Depot has been closed since 21 November 2009 for renovation. The staff and vehicles have been diversified to other depots of DTC. The Wazirpur depot is expected to be operational from 5 February 2010.

Industry

Industry in Keshav Puram includes meat warehousing, and plastics and fibre-glass production. Keshav Puram is also well known for housing the biggest name in baking industry - Britannia Industries. It was also known earlier for Kwality (The Ice cream group) and Modern Bakery. The area currently has many cold storages.

Sports and recreation

The Keshav Puram Cricket Club plays in the President’s Estate Friendship Challenge League.

Healthways has a swimming pool and fitness centre.

Keshav Puram has many parks in the area major ones being Mazdoor Park (also referred as Hathoda Ram Park as it is popularly called. This name refers to a sculpture in the park which shows a labour with a big hathoda in his hands.)

There is also a fitness centre in one of the parks near Keshav Puram Subzi Mandi.

Dhyan chand sports complex which has facilities for many games such as swimming, Tennis etc. is situated in Ashok Vihar and is at a distance of 50 meters.

Personalities from Keshav Puram

Late Smt. Indumati Kaushik

Smt. Indumati Kaushik was a famous poetess. Her poetry is famous in India as well as abroad. She spent a long time of her life living in Keshav Puram. She wrote a book 'Asweekar' - Hindi Khand Kavya, and won many awards for the outstanding literature. She was well known for her Hindi poems and gazals. Her books are still in the press.

She was not only a poetess, but a famous social figure. She was involved in the political activities in Keshav Puram, and had worked very hard for the development of the area.

She died on July 20, 2008 after long illness. Her book 'Abhinav Aarambh - Neelkanth' (Mahakavya) is in the process to become a book.

Sahib Singh Verma

He was elected for Municipal Corporation of Delhi in 1977 and went on to become Chief Minister of Delhi and afterwards he was a union minister in the Government of India. He died in a car accident in 2008.

Mr D D Sethi:

Mr D D Sethi was a reputed international expert on Social Security. He was Insurance Commissioner of ESIC, the major social security organisation of India; he spent his post retirement life from 1982 onward in B-3, Keshavpuram. . He was a real genius and possessed a highly dynamic and magnetic personality . He died in 2000. His son Mr Naresh Sethi who is an Executive Director in a premier P S U of India now stays there.

Other public services

Keshav Puram has a police station which also serves neighbouring areas of north-west Delhi. There is a hospital under construction.

Keshav Puram has two petrol pumps. It also has two commercial centres Aggarwal Modern Bazar and R G. Both are near the two petrol pumps respectively. Aggarwal Modern Bazar houses Canara Bank and Andhra Bank branches. RG houses ICICI bank and HDFC bank branches.

Cultural life

Cinema theatres near to Keshav Puram are at Shakurpur (Samrat Cinema), Anand Parbat (Liberty), Azadpur (Alpna), Shadipur (Satyam), Karampura (Milan) and Moti Nagar (Natraj. These are all within a radius of 5 km and screen mostly Hindi films.

Many cultural events are held regularly at Keshavpuram. Some of them are listed below.

Ramlilas (where the life of Lord Rama is enacted at stage) are held at fairly big scale where 4,000 to 5,000 people attend everyday.

There are many cultural programs such as Khatu Shyam Sandhya and Hariyanavi cultural programs. Hasya Kavi Sammelan on the occasion of Agarsen Jayanti is also a regular annual feature.
