Stairs lead down to the platform and a footbridge gives access to the Down platform. On the latter, a gabled Grade II listed building station house in the "Old English style of Domestic Architecture" (architect: Richard Whittall) and similar to the original building at Caterham. The station house was sold to a private owner in 2007. The original wooden waiting room on the down platform was demolished after falling into disrepair and replaced by a small modern shelter.

The station was opened as Coulsdon by the Caterham Railway in 1856 .
