It had a population (at the time of the 2001 census of 2,172, when 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.

Keelby includes a tennis court, a bowling green, a park, a primary school and the Keelby Guest House, it also has two pubs, the King's Head and the Nag's Head, and is home to a war memorial

Keelby has a football club, having teams from adult to under eight juniors.
Keelby has a cricket club playing in the Lincolnshire League, the Grimsby Midweek League and the East Lindsey Sunday League.
The present club was formed in 1975. Matches were played on the village green until 2009 before moving to the new multi purpose sports complex on the edge of the village in 2010.

The village is within the catchment area for four secondary schools, Immingham, Healing, Caistor Yarborough and Caistor Grammar School
