Future development

There are current plans to enlarge the airport to a full regional airport, with a projected increase in the runway length to approximately 8200 ft (2,499.4 m) and width to approximately 150 ft (45.7 m) to accommodate commercial chartered and scheduled carriers. This plans are highly controversial.
