, India was created by the passing of the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University Bill, 2004 in the Karnataka State Legislative Assembly on 10 February 2004. The university was established on 28 February 2005.

, by the virtue of his office, shall be the chancellor of the university. The minister in charge of Animal Husbandry, also by the virtue of his office, will be the pro-chancellor. The vice-chancellor, comptroller, registrar are full-time officers.

The Board of Management of the university will have vice-chancellor as the chairperson and secretaries of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Finance, Law departments of the government directors of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries as members and the registrar as member-secretary. The other authorities of the University will be Academic Council, Research Council, Extension Education Council, Finance Committee and Board of Studies.

The chancellor shall constitute, once in every five years, a Commission to review the working of the University and make recommendations. The Commission shall be composed of three eminent educationists in the field of veterinary, animal and fisheries sciences appointed by the Chancellor on the recommendation of the State Government.
