Karkaar is the name of series of mountains in Northeast portion of Somalia

It is also the name of an administrative region defined by the self-declared autonomous state of Puntland
. This territory occupies the south of what has traditionally been the Bari region of Somalia
and generally lies south of the Karkaar mountain range.
The region has a population of almost 350,000 and is economically dependent on livestock and seasonal fishing (for its coastal districts).
