. Lt General Kamal Davar retired from the Indian Army in 2004 after a most distinguished service spanning four decades. He has held coveted command, staff and instructional appointments both in India and abroad. For his distinguished services of the most exceptional order the Government of India awarded him the Param Vishisht and Ati Vishisht medals. A renowned operational soldier, the General since his commissioning, has served in all theatres of operations in India and was also wounded in action in the 1965 operations. His last appointment at Army HQ, for which he was especially selected by the Government, was as the first Chief of The Defence Intelligence Agency(DIA) and Deputy Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff. During his tenure many intelligence initiatives were taken and widely appreciated by the government and the three Service Headquarters. In this appointment, a plethora of sophisticated multi-dimensional state of art gadgetry besides diverse human resources across the world are handled including interactions with the top security hierarchy of countries as required and mandated by the government.

The 65 year old General is a M.Sc in Defence Studies from the Madras University and now also holds a Doctorate in Security Studies from the Meerut University. He has been a Corps Commander responsible for the defence of the Punjab( over 80000 men and equipment worth many thousands of crores)besides being the first Armoured Corps officer to have commanded the entire Ladakh sector where he had also launched the widely acclaimed ‘Operation GOODWILL.’ He was subsequently again posted to J&K as Chief of Staff of the Nagrota based Corps HQ. Prior to his raising of the DIA, India, he served as Director General of the Mechanised Forces. Is a known and prolific writer, a keen environmentalist besides having been an all round sportsman.

The general comes from a very nationalistic background with his renowned father Late Shri M. C. Davar being an eminent freedom fighter and a veteran Congressman.

The General is widely traveled and has interacted with the top political and security hierarchy of many countries as the leader and member of many official delegations abroad. He is frequently called upon by various institutions to address them on a variety of subjects.
