Origin of the name

History

Kakarlamudi Brahmin (~600 BC), who lived on the banks of River Krishna, was one of the earliest lawmakers of south India. The Kakarlamudi Brahmins in Andhra Pradesh can be grouped into two major divisions formed about a thousand to about 700 years ago, most probably during the Kakatiya dynasty (1083 to 1323 AD). The Kakarlamudi surname originated from Brahmin community. They were highly intelligent, having skills in warfare and administration, and were chosen to help the Kshatriya

s (warrior class) at a time of desperate need in defending the country. Later they were migrated to various parts of the nation.

Currently the Naidu population dominates the village. They are descendants of Sri Krishnadevaraya, emperor of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Kakarlamudi is located 25 km from the sea coast. It is generally hot and humid during summer with temperatures ranging between 32 to 45 °C (89.6 to 113 F). Winters are milder with temperatures between 15 to 23 °C (59 to 73.4 F). Heavy rains are usual between July and November during monsoon time.

Economy

The village econony is based on trade and agriculture. The regions around the village have fertile soil and are irrigated by the Krishna river water and its canals. With its central location between the commercial towns of Teanli, Gunter and Vijayawada, many residents in and around Kakarlamudi mainly depend on them for livelihood. The town holds a huge middle class, making up more than 90% of the total population. The major income source is agriculture, with two to three crops grown throughout the year.

Ramalayam is a reconstructed large ancient temple in Kakarlamudi, located in Polisetti Vari Street. Ganganamma temple is located on Addanki Vari Street. Two more temples are at Kanakayya Gari Street and Patha Bavi Centre.Two of famous ANKAMMATHALLI temples which is belongs to BOLLIMUNTHA surname located in the middle of the village. A Christian church is located at the village centre.

Kakarlamudi is known for its rich cultural and literary legacy. It has produced many famous poets, software engineers, lecturers, teachers and politicians. Kakarlamudi has contributed a major share of artists to Telugu stage drama.

The present Member of the Legislative Assembly from Kakarlamudi, Vemuru Constituency is Nakka Ananda babu (TDP), who was elected in 2009.
