KQWB-FM first went on the air in 1968 (inheriting call letters from KQWB (AM) 1550). Q98 had been an Active Rock

For most of the last decade, Q98 has had a syndicated morning show. In 1998, Scotch & Daniels was replaced with Bob and Tom in the morning. In 2000, Bob and Tom was dropped, and Scotch brought back, with Dui. They remained as morning show hosts until 2003 when they were replaced with another syndicated duo, Lex and Terry

In May 1999, Triad Broadcasting reached a deal to acquire this station from Brothers Jim and Tom Instad as part of a twelve-station deal valued at a reported $37.8 million.

The on air schedule tends to vary on the weekend, and as a result is not posted on the Q98 website (though Gunner and Sparks almost always cover their respective timeslot on Saturday). Weekend programming also includes the syndicated Scratch 'N Sniff on Saturday from 11pm-1am, HardDrive from 10p-Midnight on Sunday, and the Alternative Feed with Reed on Sunday from 8p-10p, which features the latest in the Alternative Music scene.
